What is a backflow prevention device?
Simply put, backflow is defined as the undesirable reversal of the flow of a liquid, gas, or suspended solid into the potable water supply. A backflow prevention device is a system designed to prevent such undesirable reversal from occurring. By preventing the undesirable reversal, the backflow prevention device is protecting potable water supplies from contamination or pollution due to backflow.

How often does a backflow prevention device need to be tested?
Typically, local water authorities require that backflow prevention devices be tested annually. Water authority’s requirements may vary, so we recommend checking with your local water authority to confirm which rules apply to you.
-
Why does my backflow prevention device need to be tested?
Backflow prevention devices must be tested regularly to ensure the integrity of the potable water supply. If a device is not properly doing its job of preventing the reversal of contaminated water, it needs to be repaired immediately.
-
What will happen if I do not get my device tested as required by the local water authority?
Local water authorities send a notice when a device is due to be tested and provide a deadline to get test results submitted. If that deadline is ignored, it is very likely that the local water authority will shut off the water supply to the correlating location until a passing test result is received.
-
Do I need to submit a copy of my test results to my local water authority?
No. Backflow Testers R/uss completes the test reports on an electronic device and immediately sends the results to the local water authority. If you provide us with your email address, you can receive that same report and store your results for your own records if you would like.

I have multiple devices that are on different testing schedules. Can I have them all tested at the same time?
Yes. If you have multiple devices that currently have a variety of different due dates, Backflow Testers R/uss can test all of the devices on the same day. Tests are required to be tested once annually, so as long as it is completed before the due date, every water authority that we have ever worked with has accepted the results.
